The AA routeplanner I printed out to guide me to Bath said that the journey would take just over four hours, I thought that this seemed a little over optimistic, but a combination of clear roads and good weather meant that it was indeed the case, although I did add on half an hour for a lunch break. I found the house we'd rented at the first attempt, thankfully, and met the housekeeper there for a quick tour. The house was lovely, mostly very modern, with the bizarre exception of the single bedroom, which was full of old dark furniture - the rest was very Ikea. It was a topsy turvy house, with the living room, kitchen and one bedroom upstairs, and the bathroom, laundry room and the other bedroom downstairs, which took a little getting used to, but there was plenty of space, which was just as well given the speed with which we filled it with our many belongings and purchases. I'd definitely recommend the house to anyone looking to stay in Bath, it was £500 for the week, and had a twin and a single bedroom.

The house was on Sydney Mews, just over the river from the town centre, to get into town we crossed the Pulteney Bridge, which had dinky little shops all along both sides. The day I arrived the weather was beautiful and warm (I wandered around all afternoon wearing a t-shirt, despite it being October), so as soon as the housekeeper left I shot into town to look round and stretch my legs. And visit bookshops, natch.

I thought that my chances of a lie in were severely reduced when the cats went bonkers at about 7.30 this morning, and spent ten minutes racing round the house like lunatics. I staggered downstairs and shut them in the kitchen, and amazingly managed to get back to sleep. And didn't wake up until 11 o'clock. The luxury.

The day is bright and breezy, I should tidy the bookroom but I may either do some gardening or go out. Or I could just sit in the conservatory and finish my book. I am on holiday after all.

The weekend has really cheered me up, it was a lovely break after several weeks of cleaning and tidying - and it was good to come back to a tidy house! I don't remember the last time I did that.

I am very glad that I have broadband on order, after seeing H & K's I want it. My dial up isn't bad but that is better. And I will have to order a laptop too. Soon. And all the wireless doobies that I need to use it. Although I suppose I'd better wait until the money actually arrives to pay for it.

Random memories from the weekend -

Two large tubs of haribo and a large bag of M&M's were consumed in the car on Saturday. And I was very good and didn't have any. I also had fruit salad instead of a burger for my tea. Perhaps my tidying bug is going to expand into a healthy eating bug. I hope so.

[info]kerrilouise doesn't like hedges. At least not when she's driving.

[info]dozydormouse has a shiny new electric cooker and no longer has a gas cooker in her hall.

The Litten Tree in Bath serves the largest burger I have ever seen in my entire life, with a large burger, a scrummy piece of southern fried chicken, onion rings, cheese and other bit. It had to be eaten in pieces, but I managed it. Although the chips defeated me. And their cheesy garlic bread was wonderful too - and for once the description of giant was not an understatement - there were four long pieces on each plate. No wonder I only wanted fruit salad later on really. And refused chocolate cake at A & C's.
